UNIT INSTRUCTORS' PROGRAMME 2009

The Red Cross Youth Division will be organizing the Unit Instructors' Programme (UIP), from 14th Nov 2009 to 5th Dec 2009. Schools Units are encouraged to send their Secondary 2 Cadets for this Programme.

The Unit Instructors’ Programme is primarily catered for Secondary 2 Cadets to prepare them for the necessary instructorship roles in their School Units.

UIP 2009 offers specialized Instructorship Training in three (3) Specializations, namely the Unit Footdrill Instructor (Footdrill), the Unit Casualty Evacuation Instructor (Casualty Evacuation) and the Unit Outdoor Activities Instructor (Outdoor Activities).

The Programme comprises three (3) contact sessions and a compulsory 3D2N stay-in camp held over four (4) weeks in the November and December School Holidays.

A variety of teaching methods will be used to strengthen the trainees' foundation in subject knowledge and to provide them with the necessary hard and soft skills required to effectively conduct a lesson or training session.

Successful Unit Instructor Trainees will pass out from UIP with a Gold Level Proficiency in their Specialized Core Subject and a Certificate of Participation recognizing the Cadet as a certified Instructor in their School Units.

Unit Instructors will be able to effectively conduct lessons or training sessions up to Gold Level and conduct Accreditations up to Silver Level under the guidance and verification of a Volunteer Instructor and/or Unit Youth Officer.

PROGRAMME INTAKE

The intake for each Specialization in UIP 2009 is capped at the following:

· Unit Footdrill Instructor (Footdrill): 30 pax

· Unit Casualty Evacuation Instructor (Casualty Evacuation): 35 pax

· Unit Outdoor Activities Instructor (Outdoor Activities): 25 pax

School Units are entitled to send a maximum of 2 Cadets per Specialization, totaling to 6 Cadets per School Unit.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

The Admission Criteria is as follows:

· Preferably a Sec 2 Cadet as of 2009 (Sec 3 Cadets will be given last priority)

· Silver Level Proficiency in Specialization applied for (Gold Level Proficiency will be a bonus)

· Possess leadership qualities

· Each Cadet may apply for 1 Specialization only

· Must be medically fit

· Must be able to attend all training sessions stipulated

PROGRAMME DURATION

The Programme will be held at the Red Cross Campsite on the following dates:

· Contact Session 1: 14th Nov 2009, 0845hs to 1800hs

· Contact Session 2: 21st Nov 2009, 0845hs to 1800hs

· 3D2N Training Camp: 28th Nov 2009, 0845hs to 30th Nov 2009, 1230hs

· Contact Session 3: 5th Dec 2009, 0845hs to 1730hs

Cadets are encouraged to sign up for UIP 2009 by 22nd Oct 2009. Please approach your Red Cross teachers for the application form.
